CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST

 HISTORY

On October 17, 1995, the Hearne Family was led by the spirit of God to join and form a ministry to reach out from beyond the church walls to the many lost and oppressed souls everywhere. The name “New Life Outreach” was unanimously accepted as the name of this ministry. The Church of God In Christ was chosen as the head diocese. The family chose Elder Leonard Bridges as our pastor.

Trustees, officers, and auxiliary leaders were selected. The Late Bishop Oscar Freeman approved, accepted and prayed for our ministry and we then became-“Pastor Leonard E. Bridges and the New Life Church of God in Christ”, anointed and appointed by God.

The first meetings were held at the Main Library on 5th Avenue, where the Lord tremendously blessed and revealed to us how much power and magnitude our ministry carries. Before we could ask, blessings started coming. 

On August 1, 1999 we moved to our present location, 4756 McCook Avenue.  The Lord has truly blessed us with a beautiful church home where we can come and give him all the glory and the honor and praise! We thank Bishop Tavis Grant and Greater First Full Gospel Baptist Church for opening doors to us.

 Pastor Bridges was a very Good Shepard. He was very caring and concerned about not only his flock, but also the people of God in general. Pastor Bridges went home to be with the Lord, October 1, 2011. We praise God for the life and legacy of Pastor Bridges.

Bishop Donald L. Alford served as our intern pastor from October to July 26, 2012. On July 27, 2012, we were blessed with a new pastor and first lady, Elder Ronald Hearne and First Lady, Doris Hearne. We are looking forward to going to higher levels under our current pastor’s leadership and vision. 

Prayer is the foundation for New Life Outreach Church. In spite of many obstacles in our way, we are yet encouraged to stand therefore. Today, the members are excited about the Lord and his work in us and through us. We are praying that we can continue to be his servants.
